The Story of "Little Speck of Light"

Great Spirit came along and asked "How are you, Little Speck of Light?"

Little Speck of Light said, "I am cold."

Great Spirit answered, "How can that be? You are light."

Little Speck of Light murmured in a sad voice "I don't know. But I know I am cold."

So Great Spirit wandered the universe, pondering and contemplating, contemplating and pondering, seeking an answer to the mystery of Little Speck of Light.

Soon Great Spirit returned and said, "This is What Is. Look around you. Here are others to share their light with you. You will be the center of the universe, no longer alone, surrounded by other Light Beings shining all around you."

Little Speck of Light was very excited, having waited and yearned for such a long time for warmth. Little Speck of Light looked all around and sure enough other Light Beings began to appear. They arranged themselves around Little Speck of Light, creating a great Circle of Light. Little Speck of Light was now the center of that circle, the center of Light, the center of the universe. And so it was for some time.

Once again Great Spirit came along and asked "How are you, Little Speck of Light?"

Little Speck of Light sighed and said "Thank you for the other Light Beings. It is good not to be alone in the universe."

Great Spirit heard the sigh and asked "What do you want, Little Speck of Light?"

"Well," answered Little Speck of Light in a small, shy voice, "I am still cold."

Great Spirit was perplexed. "How can that be? You are Light and you are surrounded by all these other Light Beings. You are right in the middle of the circle."

"I don't understand. But I know I am still cold," peeped Little Speck of Light.

Once again, Great Spirit wandered and pondered and contemplated, and pondered some more. Very soon, Great Spirit returned and said "Little Speck of Light, this is What IS. To create warmth, you must send your light out to the others in the circle, focusing your energy out toward others, making connections, sending Love out. Do this Now."

Little Speck of Light concentrated and focused and slowly, slowly began beaming trickles of Light and Love out to the edges of the circle, out to the other Light Beings. And slowly, slowly - trickles of Light and Love began to return to the center. And slowly, slowly the Light and Love grew and grew, getting brighter and brighter, light beams weaving together into a beautiful web of radiance.

As the Light grew and grew, Little Speck of Light began to see a Vision, strange and wonderful, a Vision of flower petals, gardens full of flowers and many, many beautiful flower petals. Now being alone in the universe, there had never been flower petals before or flowers or gardens. And yet this is what the Vision revealed. Little Speck of Light began to feel the feelings of flower petals -- how they are connected to the center, how they move and blossom out toward the Light, how they gather Light and Love and send it on to all parts of the flower and on through the plant. And the Vision got bigger. Little Speck of Light saw how the flowers nourish the plants and then the plants nourish all the other beings, and how the soil and the rain nourishes all the plants.

And as the vision became bigger and clearer and brighter, full of colors and scents and soft rose petal velvets, Little Speck of Light noticed the other Light Beings also growing bigger and clearer and brighter, more luminous. A web of light emerged, connecting all the Light Beings. And the web began to grow, bigger and clearer and brighter.

Then in the very next moment, something wondrous happened. Little Speck of Light felt warmth -- toasty, yummy, tingly, all over good-feeling Warmth.

Great Spirit, off wandering and pondering other mysteries of the universe, also felt the new glow of Warmth. So Great Spirit came and saw all that Little Speck of Light had seen, the new What Is of the universe.

Great Spirit saw a circle of Light Beings, dancing and laughing, beaming Love and Light to each other and all around. And within and through this circle of light was a garden world full of flowers and color and warm loving kindness, a paradise. Now Great Spirit looked closely but could not find Little Speck of Light -- not in the center of the circle, not with all the other Light Beings, not anywhere. No matter how much Great Spirit looked, Little Speck of Light was not to be seen.

So Great Spirit called out "Little Speck of Light, where are you?" And then Great Spirit heard it - The Miracle!! From all directions, voices began to call back "Here I am. Here I am. Oh Great Spirit, Here I Am" -- voices from the flowers, from the earth, from the wind, from the rain, from all the sacred forms of this new world, voices singing and laughing. And from all the Light Beings holding the new Circle of Light and Love, from every corner of paradise, the voices called to Great Spirit.

Great Spirit smiled, noticing that from each and every voice, there came a great, brilliant, sparkling, sweet-scented, lovely glow of Warmth. And then Great Spirit laughed, long and full and loud, booming out a message, echoed throughout the universe, through all space and time and all dimensions.
